As per the requirement of the Electrical Installation Regulations(2009), a registered person shall exercise general control over all electrical installation work being carried out, and no person may allow such work without such control. It is therefore imperative that an electrician should register with Department of Labour as a Registered Person. The requirements for registration as a registered person are given by the Electrical Installation Regulations and the Information Brochure.
According to this document an electrician can register as the following:
- Single-phase Tester
- Installation Electrician
- Master Installation Electrician

The basic requirements for this registration require the person to have:
- Completed Unit Standards on Inspection, Testing and Certification of Single-phase domestic Installations
The basic requirements for this registration require the person to have:
- Completed Unit Standards on Inspection, Testing and Certification of Three-phase industrial/commercial Installations
- Installation Electrician for 2 years.
- Experience in Hazardous locations for 1 year.
- Passed examination on Specialized Electrical Installations.
- N6 Certificate.
- Completed Unit Standards on Inspection, Testing and Certification of Specialized Electrical Installations in Hazardous locations.
