If you are in the electrical industry and you want any sort of credibility in the industry this would be the minimum qualification to have. Secondly it would allow you to apply for electrical positions advertised in the market place. Thirdly it is one of the requirements for Wireman’s License.

There are a few requirements for enrolment at INDLELA. In short they will require proof of experience in the form of a reference letter from the employer. The number of years depends on the N Qualification of the learner. Yes, you will have to pass the screening test (multiple choice) before INDLELA will enrol you for the Examination. This test determines whether you have the basic electrical knowledge to enrol for the exam.

Yes, usually the Examination date is given on the same day, however it can happen that they will notify you at a later stage if they have a system problem

Yes, usually the Examination date is fixed but it can be made earlier at the discretion of INDLELA or if a cancellation becomes available.

Yes, you can schedule your training at any time or closer to your exam date; however it needs to be on one of our scheduled courses. A revision period of 4 days prior to your examination date is provided free of charge. If you schedule your training immediately before your examination you need to realize that there will be very little time to study prior to the exam. So if you are someone that prefers to have lots of study time before the exam it would be better to leave a gap between training and Examination.

The course can be done either full time or part time. The full time course is four weeks long, while the part time course is 6 Weekends long. Please refer to Electrical Trade Test Preparation for more details regarding the schedule.

Coffee and Tea is served during breaks and a well stocked cafeteria is available for purchasing cold drinks, chips, chocolates etc. Meals are however not provided.

Yes, you are more than welcome, a meal area is provided where you can relax during the scheduled breaks.

Yes, as it is a practical course it is necessary to wear a least an overall and appropriate footwear. This is not supplied by Renkalec Training Centre as it is personal.

Yes, you have to supply your own basic tools. You can purchase the appropriate tools from Renkalec Training Centre at a reduced fee or bring your own.

Trade Test Assessment does not work on a percentage but your competence for a task is assessed. There are usually five categories against which you will be assessed and you have to pass all five categories to obtain your Trade (Red Seal).

You only have to repeat those categories that you have failed, however any of the tasks within the category can be assessed and not necessarily the task that was given the first time. You will do a re-enrolment for a new exam date after which Renkalec Training Centre will give you an opportunity to revise these tasks at our practical facility. Yes, this qualification is also known as the “Olifantsfontein Red Seal” or just “Red Seal”.

There is quite a big difference between the two. In short the trade test is a trade qualification, in other words if you have passed a Trade Test you can call yourself an ELECTRICIAN. In the same way that a mechanic that passed a trade test can call himself/herself a MECHANIC. The same apply to a FITTER, MILLWRIGHT etc. A Wireman’s License is a registration that is done at Department of Labour. This registration is subject to certain qualifications, of which Trade Test is one, as described in the Information brochure for application as a registered person.
